In July 2006, the ArtsLiteracy Project established a pilot summer lab school in Inhumas, Goias (Brazil). Teachers from the United States partnered with Brazilian public school teachers and artists to design and implement literacy programs in both English and Portuguese using teaching methods developed by the ArtsLiteracy Project. The lab school began with a one-week Teacher Institute course for teaching teams and local educators covering the theory and practice of literacy development and language acquisition.
